Fashion Tips For The Guys

-For the Guys-

Pack Your Bags!

Cowboy hats, your favorite kicks, beanies, sunglasses, even fake mustaches…accessorizing can add tons of color and style to your photos. Bring anything that highlights your personality or that you can just have fun with. Belts are a great way to add some flair and are important for guys because they show in your photos, so make sure you bring at least one.

Should you or shouldn’t you? Most guys opt for a casual look for their entire senior picture session, but dressing up in a suit and tie can be a really nice look and will add variety.  And it makes Mom oh so happy to see her son dressed to the nines:)

Jackets are a quick and easy way to add a different look to your senior picture session. Hoodies and letter jackets work great. but don’t be afraid to get creative. We are totally crushing on the formal blazer with the casual jeans or trendy vest with a white T and jeans.

We know how you boys are with your toys… guitars, skis, and automobiles. You love them, we love them- so bring them in. Make sure to bring in a more styley outfit with your guitar or saxophone- think old rock t-shirt or bring in a vest with some hot red converse shoes.  Some of our clients like to bring in funky headphones, sheet music, or even their own turn table.

If you’re bringing in your skis or snowboard, go all out and bring your stylish jacket, hat, and goggles too! We love all the fun, bright colors that those pieces incorporate.

If you love that car of yours, whether its a muddy jeep that you take to the mountains, or a bright red Porsche, it’s your baby and you should have it in your photos.

Just because its summer doesn’t mean you have to only wear t-shirts. Change up your look by bringing fall and winter clothes too. For more variety, bring at least two long sleeved shirts to your session. You won’t regret having a few different looks to spice up your photos. Don’t be afraid to bring in a t-shirt with a pattern. Plaids and stripes are an instant classic, but don’t be shy- bring in your favorite graphic tee!

Definitely bring your letter jacket, jersey, uniform, or even a trophy or award. We love taking photos of whatever represents all the hard work and dedication you’ve put into your sport.

If you need a hair cut, try to do it at least 3-7 days before your session so that it has a chance to settle and not look freshly cut. And don’t forget to come to your session with your hair already done, that way we can jump right in!

Bring a couple pairs that go with all the different outfits you plan on bringing. We don’t want you in a suit and flip flops!

Don’t freak out if you break out before your session. That’s what retouching is for, and at Becky Beckingham Photography, our ‘Just Right Retouch’ is ALWAYS included.

Other Fun Stuff

Hey Mom, most of this stuff he’ll already have, but check out what he’s planning to bring before he gets here, just in case you’re not in love with all those old wrinkled t-shirts. Send him with as much variety as possible and we’ll make sure he wears all the good stuff for you!

This is the page for you if you are looking for fashion, inspiration and tips! Don’t forget, when it comes to your session, the most important thing to do is be yourself!

Textures & Prints

Incorporating different textures and patterns is a fabulous way to create more variety in your outfits and create interest in your senior photos. Textures we love: lace, crochet, sequins, leather, and ruffles. Prints we love: floral, stripes, plaid, and tribal. Major style points if you can mix a texture with a print! If you’re not quite ready for that adventure you can always mix a print or texture with a great pair of jeans or a solid color

Statement necklaces, hippie headbands, shades, neon belts, and fedoras- OH MY! We just LOVE accessories over here at Vision. They add color, style, and personality to your senior pictures. The right accessory can really transform your look into a “wow”!  We all know how crafty you girls can be, but if you’re looking for affordable trends Forever 21 and Target are your stores!

A good outfit can become GREAT with a little layering, and there are tons of options! Jackets, blazers, cardigans, and scarves are a great way to give your outfit a little oomph! Whether you choose to bring a classic pea coat, edgy leather jacket, or a delicate scarf, you won’t be sad that you have options and these accessories work great for outdoor portrait photography!

Are you known amongst your friend as the sporty one, rocker chick, or ultimate shredder of the slopes? If the answer is yes, you should definitely bring your jersey, guitar, snow board, or anything else that represents the hard work you put into your passions. (Even if it’s your horse!) We have literally seen it all, so please don’t be afraid to go all out!

Dresses & Skirts

Dresses are so fun and flirty! And our favorite part- they bring out your personality in your photos. Dresses and skirts that clinch at the waist are most flattering. We’re also loving the low-hi trend because you can show off those cute boots!  Take it a step further and bring in your prom or homecoming dress. We’re sure mom and dad would be thrilled that the $300 they spent on yours is being put to good use!

Are you obsessed with them? Well, we are! In addition to a nice, comfortable pair you don’t mind walking around outside in, be sure to bring a few options that show off your sassy or edgy side!

Hair & Makeup

If you color your hair, make sure that you get it redone a couple of weeks before your session. You won’t want overgrown roots showing up in your photos. Arrive at your session with your hair already done. Most girls choose to wear their hair down, but wear it however makes you feel most comfortable. Don’t worry, we will fix and adjust your hair during your session so that you’ll look great the whole time.

Don’t freak out if you breakout before your session. That’s what retouching is for, and at Vision, retouch is ALWAYS included so there are no hidden fees. Just wear your normal face make up and blush and you’re good to go.

If we had to say, the single most important thing about your makeup is to put on your mascara carefully. Try as best you can to avoid those clumpy spider eyelashes. For eye shadow, wear your favorite colors, but don’t over do it. Too much eyeliner or color can make your big beautiful eyes look small

Lipstick, oddly enough, is not something a lot of our girls think to wear, but it can add a lot of personality to your photo. Next time you are at the mall, stop by the MAC counter and have them recommend a few shades and lip liners that would work best on you.

Fashion Tips

~Clothing Tips~

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you start thinking about clothing for your family portraits. Mom-I’m sure you are already freaking about how you are going to get everyone in trendy, but classic, not too matchy, but matchy enough look…Ahhh the stress! Well don’t worry, we are here to help!

Gone are the days of matching white T’s and jeans- don’t be afraid to add a little color to your look. Color is a great way to let all your family member’s personalities shine through. Be careful though, too much color and you will turn into a bag of skittles. Start with a color scheme of around 3-4 colors mixing in some neutrals with some brighter, richer colors as well. Keep in mind the colors you decorate with or tend to gravitate towards naturally; if you plan on putting pictures up in your home, you want to coordinate with your decor.

Colors that photograph well: Blues, browns, greens & teals, burgundies & reds, oranges & yellows, purples – jewel tones!! And as always, mix in a few neutrals.

Patterns are our friends! I know it can be scary, but we promise you won’t regret it. Similar to using color, a little can go a long way, make sure to only have one or two family members wearing a pattern as to avoid visual overload. Too many patterns and we won’t know where to look in the photo, but with the right combo of color, pattern, and texture you will achieve family portrait perfection. And the best part: your family will actually look like your family, and not an army in uniform! Try to avoid anything with a graphic or logo, we want these photos to be timeless, so when in doubt go with a more classic look

Patterns that work: Horizontal stripes, argyle, polka dots, floral, check, hounds tooth, and for our spunky families (you know who you are) animal print and tribal.

Textures are your friends too, especially: lace, knit, and denim.

We love when you show off your style, and accessories are the perfect way to do it! Some of our favorites include: jackets, scarfs, belts, hats, boots, headbands, statement jewelry, and of course our favorite accessory of all – your cute doggie :).
